The art and architecture aren’t the only attractions when the MFA opens its Art of the Americas Wing to the public today. A free Community Day brings musical performances, tours, and children’s activities. Here are some highlights:
9-10:30 a.m. Boston University Pep Band plays at the Huntington Avenue entrance; Hot Tamale Brass Band is at the
10 a.m. Huntington and Fenway doors open. Children from the Boys and Girls Clubs of Boston enter first.
10:30-11 a.m. Opening ceremony, with remarks by MFA director Malcolm Rogers and performances by the New England Conservatory’s Millennium Gospel Choir and BU’s Inner Strength Choir.
11 a.m. Doors open to the new wing.
11 a.m.-8 p.m. Family activities include scavenger hunt, watercolor painting.
6 p.m. Musical performances by 19-year-old cello virtuoso Anthony Rymer and pianist Zenan Yu, followed by the Hawthorne String Quartet.![]()
