Kelly Felthous stars as Elle in the production of “Legally Blonde’’ opening Tuesday at North Shore Music Theatre, but a dog named Chico, who plays Bruiser, takes center stage in the big, splashy opening number, “Omigod You Guys.’’ The 6-year-old Chihuahua, who also played the part on Broadway, was adopted from a shelter in 2007 by trainer Bill Berloni, who received a Tony Honor for Excellence in the Theatre this year for his work training dogs, cats, and even a few farm animals for the stage.
