ART REVIEW
”Symposion” is the title of Jessica Jackson Hutchins’s centerpiece sculpture in her first solo museum show, now at the Institute of Contemporary Art. Hutchins is known for her homespun aesthetic, deploying funky ceramics, papier maché sculpture, and odds and ends from her own life. ”Symposion” is a magnificent and funny work: a massive black papier maché form, lobed and bulbous, rolling over a peacock blue couch. It’s like a frat-house orgy on a sofa the fraternity brothers brought in off the curb on trash day.
