CLUBS & DANCE NIGHTS
TIËSTO Once you’ve made it to the top of the international DJ food chain, there’s only one thing left to do: Start getting your hands dirty in the world of rock. Renowned for his trippy trance music and heroic live sets, the Dutch DJ Tiësto turned to indie rock luminaries Bloc Party, Tegan and Sara, and Sigur Rós for help on his latest, “Kaleidoscope.’’ He performs tonight. 18+. 8 p.m. Oct. 1. $41.50-71.50. Tsongas Arena. 800-745-3000. www.paultsongasarena.com

LATIN MUSIC USA The new WGBH series exploring the crossroads of Latin American and US popular culture in music doesn’t premiere until Oct. 12. But Friday you can help send the program off in style with this dance party. Bobby Sanabria y Quarteto Aché and Mango Blue lay down the rhythm alongside dance performances and instruction. ISLAND FEVER Just glancing at our bank statement here, and it looks like a trip to the Caribbean probably isn’t in the cards any time soon. This virtual tour may have to suffice. Besides RumBa has all the different types of rum we’d want to try anyway. Island Fever . . . The Journey Starts Here is a first-Saturday-of-the-month party with music from Reggae Goldie’s Reggae Band and cocktails and rum styles from throughout the Caribbean. Get there early to take advantage of massages and tanning at the InterContinental Hotels’ spa. Who needs the real thing anyway? 21+. 9 p.m. Oct. 3 $20. RumBa at the Intercontinental Boston. 617-217-5152, www.intercontinentalboston.com

FASHION WEEK PARTY Fashion on the runway is one thing, but seeing it in action at a party is usually a better gauge of current trends. Find out what the models, designers, and photographers of Boston Fashion Week look like up close at this party. Euro House, Top 40, makeovers for guests and best dressed awards provide the entertainment. All you have to do is show up looking sharp. 21+. 9:30 p.m. Oct. 3. $25. blu at the Sports Club/LA. bfw.ticketleap.com

COURTNEY HOLLANDS

COMEDY
PAULA POUNDSTONE It took Poundstone years to write her first book, which was released in 2007, and even longer for her first stand-up CD, which came out earlier this year. But in the meantime, she’s never stopped performing live, which is the best way to hear her. 7:30 p.m. Oct. 2. $22-$35. Comedy Connection, Wilbur Theatre. 866-448-7849, www.ticketmaster.com

SUE COSTELLO When Dorchester native Costello was here in April, she was doing her one-woman show, “Minus 32 Million Words,’’ which she still performs in New York. This weekend, she trades the theater for a club and gets back to stand-up. 21+. 8:30 p.m. Oct. 2-3. $18 Friday, $20 Saturday. Tommy’s Comedy Lounge. 800-745-3000, www.tommyscomedylounge.com

He has come back to Boston for a few short appearances, but you’ll get to see him do a full headlining set this weekend. 21+. 8 p.m. Oct. 2-3. $20. Mottley’s Comedy Club. 877-615-2844, www.mottleyscomedy.com
