CLUBS & DANCE NIGHTS
CHIPTUNE Anyone with a Wii or Playstation3 knows that video game music has become exponentially more sophisticated in recent years. The musicians behind the Chiptune genre have a decidedly more nostalgic take. Utilizing old Nintendos, Segas, Game Boys, etc., in conjunction with live instruments, acts like OxygenStar, Active Knowledge, and Br1ght Pr1mate are moving the boundaries of rock and electro and teleporting video game music from the home console to the club. They perform tonight. 21+. 8 p.m. Oct. 8. $8. Felt, 617-350-5555. www.feltclubboston.com

XMORTIS Much like the Christmas season gets extended earlier every year, Halloween has taken over the entire month of October. Although if you’re a fan of goth music and horror-theme parties like this one, then every day is pretty much Halloween. Xmortis DJ Chris Ewen teams up with J. Cannibal of Feast of Flesh and Ghouls in the Garage for Horror Hotel, a goth, industrial, and horror punk dance party. 18+. 9 p.m. Oct. 9. $10. T.T. the Bear’s, 617-492-0082. www.ttthebears.com

MICHAEL JACKSON No, he’s not performing, although we could certainly imagine stranger things involving the late King of Pop. On Saturday the Coolidge throws a midnight video dance party featuring all of Jackson’s videos. We still remember the goofy dance moves we used to do in front of the TV to songs like “Dirty Diana’’ and “The Way You Make Me Feel.’’ Maybe we’ll dust them off for the first time in decades. Midnight. Oct. 10. $10. The Coolidge Corner Theatre, 617-734-2500. www.coolidge.org MADONNA Sorry to get your hopes up twice, but like the Michael Jackson party, Madonna probably isn’t showing up at this one either. But there should be plenty of imitators hitting the stage for this karaoke contest in honor of Madge’s new record. Sing a Madonna song, do some weird writhing around on stage, and maybe win some Madonna prizes. “La Isla Bonita’’ or “Live to Tell’’ would be our choices, but we’re romantic like that. 18+. 7 p.m. Oct 9. $10. Limelight Stage and Studios 877-557-8271. www.limelightboston.com LUKE O’NEIL

COMEDY
JERKUS CIRCUS The Circus has been looking for a new home near Boston since it left the Lizard Lounge last year. Now the musical comedy duo the Steamy Bohemians are bringing their variety and burlesque show to Oberon, a great fit for their brand of freakiness. Oct. 9, 10:30 p.m. $12. Oberon, 2 Arrow St., Cambridge. 866-811-4111, www.cluboberon.com

JACKIE MASON Mason brings his new one-man show, “No Holds Barred,’’ featuring his conservative political commentary, to Boston tomorrow. For a bit of a preview, take a look at his weekly commentary on World Net Daily at www.wnd.com. Oct. 9, 7:30 p.m. $45-$60. Comedy Connection, Wilbur Theatre. 866-448-7849, www.ticketmaster.com

D.L. HUGHLEY Hughley may have lost his CNN gig breaking the news, but now he reports regularly from Washington as a correspondent for “The Jay Leno Show’’ and tours the country doing stand-up. Oct. 10, 7:30 p.m. and 9:45 p.m. $22-$32. Comedy Connection, Wilbur Theatre. 866-448-7849, www.ticketmaster.com

KNOXIE’S TEAM Kevin Knox usually hosts Mondays at the Vault, but while Knoxie is fighting stage four melanoma, his friends are helping him out. Monday nights at the Vault indefinitely will benefit Knox, with this Monday featuring Frank Santorelli, Dave Russo, Chris Zito, Mike MacDonald, Corey Rodrigues, and Dick Doherty. Oct. 12, 8:30 p.m. $15. Dick Doherty’s Beantown Comedy Vault. 800-401-2221, www.beantowncomedy.com
