His musical talent finds new life in Dethklok
Brendon Small's band, Dethklok, officially became the highest-charting death metal band in Billboard history when "The Dethalbum" reached 21 on the Top 200 in its first week of release. The band's 28-city tour has been selling out venues like the Worcester Palladium, where Dethklok will play Tuesday. (Globe Correspondent, 6/20/08)
For Caliendo, it's about favorable impressions
Don't know the name Frank Caliendo? That's OK. Even after seven years on "MADtv," countless appearances on Fox's football programs, and his own show, "Frank TV," on TBS, Caliendo knows people have a hard time placing him. That's probably because he's so good at his job, mainly, creating uncanny impressions of celebrities ranging from Robin Williams to Dr. Phil. (Globe Correspondent, 7/18/08)
George Carlin was as good as his words
It's 1972 in a bedroom somewhere in the endless flatness of suburbia. A phonograph needle drops on the last track of a much-played vinyl album, and a teenage boy cranes his ears once more, waiting for the voice to come through the crackle: (Globe Staff, 6/28/08)

School pals put on 'Fancee Panties' for some laughs
Back at Boston Latin, Carolynne Warren was the captain of the pep club, while Mary Callanan was the team mascot. "She was enthusiastic, but I got to wear the costume," Callanan says with a sly smile. (Globe Staff, 6/27/08)
George Carlin, comic in search of meaning
George Carlin, a comedian famed equally for his bawdy routines about drugs and obscenities and for his ability to render absurd the most commonplace of items in modern life, died of heart failure at a Los Angeles-area hospital yesterday, a spokesman said. He was 71. (Globe Staff, 6/23/08)
Rock ranges from solid to unsavory
Chris Rock wasn't just a comedian at the Citi Performing Arts Center Saturday night. He was, by his own admission, an "antidepressant," a man funny enough to make Prozac and Xanax seem redundant. This was true: He was funny, but often just funny enough. Rock has been touring the world with a show of new material (it's called "No Apologies"), ... (Globe Staff, 6/16/08)
News parody gets a positive spin
Comedy, especially topical comedy and satire, is about tearing something down. "The Daily Show" and "The Colbert Report" target politicians and the media who cover them on a nightly basis, tearing down the spin. Mort Sahl's stated duty was to attack the guy in office, even if he were a friend like John F. Kennedy. Bill Hicks went so far ... (Globe Correspondent, 6/13/08)
Helping with humor
"Food Banks are facing a serious food shortage due to the increase in food prices and increased demand for their services caused by the downturn in the economy," says comedian Allan Telio, explaining his improv troupe's decision to throw a benefit for the Greater Boston Food Bank. Tonight at Kitsch In Sync's "Haha's for Hunger," he says, you can expect ... (Globe Correspondent, 6/6/08)
Lewis Black
Whether it's Jon Stewart or Stephen Colbert with politics or Bill Maher with religion, it's common knowledge that comedians are the only ones taking on the tough questions right now. Add the ever irascible Lewis Black to that list. The sometime "Daily Show" screamer has written a new book titled "Me of Little Faith" that rips into the hypocrisies and ... (Boston Globe, 6/6/08)
They made Boston laugh first
If you buy a comedy CD this year, chances are good it will come from Comedy Central Records. In the past two months alone, the label has released three new albums, two of them recorded in Boston. (Globe Correspondent, 5/20/08)
Some comics' alt humor is little to laugh about
It's funny, most of the comedians at the Alternative Comedy Festival in Somerville weren't all that alternative. Emo Phillips is admittedly a bit cuckoo, but he's the king of that stand-up staple, the one-liner; Patton Oswalt was the voice of Remy in Pixar's Oscar-winning and wildly popular "Ratatouille." There were a few songs, and plenty of irony, but not a ... (Globe Staff, 5/12/08)
