Gyorgy Ligeti, the Hungarian-born composer, died earlier today at 83. Back in March, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, under guest conductor David Robertson, performed Ligeti's "Romanian Concerto".

Also, we've received word that New England Conservatory President Daniel Steiner died Sunday of chronic lung disease. Steiner, 72, had already announced he would step down at the end of the year. He was the first non-musician to head the conservatory.
