So how much does the world's most famous maestro make? The Boston Symphony Orchestra's most recent tax filing arrived Monday, and it includes salaries of several key figures, including music director James Levine. Our story also details where Levine ranks with other superstar maestros.

The BSO paid the maestro's company, Phramus, Inc., just under $1.6 million for his services during his first season. That's a good chunk of change more than the BSO paid for Tanglewood favorite James Taylor ($773,976) and Pops conductor Keith Lockhart ($739,894). (Lockhart made another $245,000 for his second job, serving as music director of the Utah Symphony & Opera.)

And don't forget Levine's other gig, at the Metropolitan Opera. The Met paid Phramus $1.9 million for Levine, according to the organization's most recent filing.
