An interesting tidbit from Harvard, as Shelby White's talks continue with Italian authorities.

First, a bit of background: White is the collector who, along with her late husband Leon Levy, has made generous contributions to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Fine Arts and archaeological programs at universities.

Thatís created a conflict for some scholars, who don't like taking money from collectors accused of purchasing looted art.
The Harvard Crimson recently wrote about the Shelby White-Leon Levy Program for Archaeological Publications at Harvard.

So the news: The Leon Levy Foundation will establish the Philip J. King Professorship at Harvard, which, according to an e-mail the university suspects was written by a King supporter and promptly zapped through the archaeological cybersphere, will "be used to support an outstanding scholar of the ancient world who will further such commitment and is to be awarded at the discretion of the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences." The note adds: "It is Harvard's intention in the first instance to appoint an Egyptologist."

A Harvard spokeswoman tells us that, indeed, there are plans to add the King professorship. But no press release has been sent out by the university. Expect an announcement sometime in the next few months, she said.
