Harvard University Art Museums - Raising Admission Fees

Posted by Geoff Edgers August 7, 2006 12:42 PM

It isn't the Met, but the Harvard University Art Museums will increase admission fees on Sept. 1 from $7.50 to $9. Senior citizen will pay $7, a buck more; Harvard students get in for free, other college students will still pay $6. We asked the HUAM folks if that seemed fair, considering that the art museums at Yale, Princeton, and Cornell don't charge admission.

A spokesman's response:
"The increase is to bring us in line with the Peabody Museum and the Natural History Museum here at Harvard.
It has been a long-term goal of the current director to eliminate admission fees. It is a difficult transition to make financially, but one that we are working on and hope to accomplish in the near future."
