Philadelphia Orchestra, What's Next?

Posted by Geoff Edgers October 30, 2006 10:45 AM

Peter Dobrin checked in with a piece handicapping the field to replace Christoph Eschenbach. I was surprised that Robert Spano and David Robertson were not on that list. I also figured it was worth asking about Ludovic Morlot, the Boston Symphony Orchestra assistant conductor who has been garnering rave reviews.

Dobrin's response:

Hi Geoff,

I do not know Morlot's work. Spano and Robertson have been here, but have not made a strong impression - at least on me. After my piece ran yesterday, however, several readers sent me notes suggesting Robertson. It would be good to hear him again, since conductors can evolve.

I hope that's helpful. Feel free to shoot me any additional questions.

Cheers,
Peter
