James Brown, 73

Posted by Geoff Edgers December 25, 2006 02:31 PM

He died early this morning, and rather unexpectedly. As a musical innovator, James Brown's influence is beyond dispute. But it's worth remembering - particularly after his questionable behavior in recent years - his social impact. The Godfather of Soul's 1968 Boston concert is credited with keeping the city from erupting after the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr.
