Sex, Scandals, Sting: Friday Reads
With all due respect to, well, me, I can't imagine classical music fans getting a better blog buy for their money than Matthew Guerrieri, master of Soho the Dog and in recent weeks a Globe correspondent. He takes on the Hatto case here and, as is typical on his blog, does more than provide us with a few links. Boy, this guy writes a lot, and virtually all of it compelling.
After failing to score Police tickets the other day - no, we in the media don't just pull strings for choice seats - I was compelled to remind myself why I hated Sting so much after he left the band. Slapping on his solo concert album, "Bring On The Night," I quickly got up to speed. The way he ruins good police songs with Kenny Gifications. "Driven To Tears?" "One World?" Scary stuff.
This Slate article puts Sting in perspective.
Here's a pretty tough story on William Preucil, concertmaster of the Cleveland Orchestra. Did he hit on a student? Has he forced his relatives into the symphony? The Cleveland Scene raises the questions.
