Alex Ross: BSO Is Rich

Posted by Geoff Edgers March 11, 2007 09:41 AM

Alex Ross isn't wrong. But it's worth noting that a chunk of the money that came into the Boston Symphony Orchestra's budget - and which provides such a rosy picture - is hooked to the special fund created when the BSO determined that James Levine's programming would leave the orchestra with an about $1.5 million operating deficit each year. The response to that concern from Peter Brooke and other symphony supporters is just one more reason the BSO is the envy of the orchestra world.
