Gardner Museum (Re) Catches Red Sox Fever
Knowing that anything remotely Red Sox AND arts related would score some space out in the tubes, the Gardner Museum zapped along this note linking its founder to the championship quest.
"ISABELLA STEWART GARDNER was more than a Victorian-era art collector, museum creator, and renowned Boston socialite: She was a NEW YORKER who moved to BOSTON and was an AVID RED SOX FAN (AND SEASON TICKET HOLDER). She further showed her support for the team in rare fashion – attending the symphony on the eve following the team’s 1912 championship win swathed in a white headband bearing the words “Oh you Red Sox!” scrawled on it in bold red letters for all to see. The act shocked society and the media alike, prompting one reporter to describe Isabella Gardner as a “woman…gone crazy... with this band bound like a fillet around her auburn hair.”
The venerable art institution (once called “Fenway Court” and just blocks from Fenway Park) will itself be swathed in a 25-foot bright-red “Oh, you Red Sox!” banner for the entire World Series 2007. And the museum’s inviting Sox fans from far and wide to submit their best show of support for the team online in our all-new, first-ever “Oh, you Red Sox!” visitor photo contest."
