Christian Viveros-Faune, More Criticism

Posted by Geoff Edgers January 18, 2008 08:24 PM

Apparently, I'm not the only one upset about Christian Viveros-Faune's blurring of criticism and commerce. Tyler has posted links to the responses here. Time's Richard Lacayo says he has no problem with an art critic running commercial art fairs. Okay. Just kidding. Lacayo writes:

I'm not at all clear as to what Viveros-Faune means when he says "there is no interest in the art world without a conflict of interest". But I'll look on the bright side and take it as a first sign that he recognizes at least that there is a conflict of interest here. The next step would be to take it seriously.
