Paris Hilton At Harvard?

Posted by Geoff Edgers January 9, 2008 09:03 AM

[WHOOPS: A Harvard Lampoon staffer called in to tell us that Paris is coming to make a special announcement on Feb. 6. (He wouldn't say what that announcement will be, only that she's not getting the Hasty Pudding Award, as far as he knows.

Also, at this point, we've ruled out Paris receiving the Nobel Peace Prize, Livingston Award, or the Charles Martin Duke Lifeline Earthquake Engineering Award.]

If it is true - as we should assume having read in today's Globe about Paris Hilton's February trip - we are in for a treat. Maybe it makes sense to give the hotel heiress the Hasty Pudding Award. But it also raises so many questions. Will she get the joke? Will Britney or Lindsay show up? Will she read excerpts from the jailhouse diary? Who is going to drive her to the proceedings, because I can't imagine she's going to understand how to swing around Harvard Square.

And please, will somebody make sure Paris is fully dressed?

  1. this has got to be a joke. Parasite Hilton is one of the stupidest, most uneducated individuals (a whore really more-so than individual) in this country.

  1. The only suprise is that Harvard hasn't invited this class act long before now. Worldly, wise, and ready to share her hard-won insights into the human condition, those funny little Puddin' Pops are plum lucky to have her. If they afford the lass the respect she knows she deserves, she may even let the one or two straight boys in the club take her home as a door prize.

    We have stooped to this.

  1. Since when does Harvard in the modern era suggest culture or education? Seriously, Harvard has been at odds with the advancement of western culture for decades. Fearful of being exposed Harvard has allowed legions of mediocres
to viritually rule what was a place of higher learning. Paris will be president in 20 years...but that's modern liberalism for ya.

  1. She didn't even graduate high school. This is proof that there's nothing to the 'Ivy League' except money. Harvard and the like are not towers of educational quality they are simply repositories for the progeny of the financial elite.

In any case, she could do a new video to perk up her waning finances: Paris Does Paris.

  1. Harvard is filled with nothing but dim-witted privileged liberal arts numbskull spoiled brats who don't learn anything useful, so its fitting that a brainless airheaded dimwitted functionally illiterate numbskull like this slut-whore gets invited to show up there.

  1. The only people who should be embarrassed are throwing around words like "parasite" and "whore" without having contributed anything themselves to America's cultural life. Ms. Hilton is a model, singer and entrepreneuse who has made her own way instead of taking the easy route of living on inherited wealth. Hilton's work is not for everybody but she has indisputably accomplished more at a young age than most people will do in a lifetime. If the best Harvard students and alumni can do if offer fake plaudits they are only embarrassing themselves and an institution apparently dedicated to rewarding elitism and assumed privilege rather than taking up Hilton's challenge to better themselves.

  1. Her shirt says it all to you jealous haters. Is she a great intellect? Probably not? Does that make her less than all of the BIG brains at Harvard.
Stop judging her and get over it. She's living her life, making lots of money and has already made a bigger mark on the work than most people ever will. What that mark is debateable but I won't knock her husltle.

  1. Well, Harvidians, you cannot be upset with the fact that she is coming to your University, when your University is jumping on the "Paris" bandwagon. The fact that she gets any award, especially an award titled, "Woman of the Year" is simply embarassing.

The good news is that the local economy will receive a major boost from the extensive influx of visitors, so that'll be nice. Locals may want to stay inside...but otherwise, get ready to line your pockets with cash local business people!

  1. she is not a self made millionaire... anyone who has an unlimited amount of capital from daddy can (make) millions, maybe we should give credit to the people she paid who actually marketed, organized and did everything that allowed her to (make) the money. its just sad that she is a role model for my generation, seems like there is no decency left anymore.

Posted by imrightgetoverit January 9, 08 02:20 PM
  1. Folks, she is not being accepted to Harvard. READ the article. She is being given an award, which by the way, is a tongue-in-cheak award, hence the comment about whether she would understand the joke. Harvard is still a premier school, especially and the graduate level.

Posted by Manny January 9, 08 02:47 PM
  1. Why not? Paris is probably not stupid, but priviliged. Take away a little of her gray matter and she should fit right in. Behavior or performance don't seem to me to be a criteria for involvement with Harvard.

    Harvard?

Posted by Sue January 9, 08 03:03 PM
  1. Get a grip people. You talk like Harvard is bringing her. Take a moment and a deep breath and re-read the article. You will then see the Harvard Lampoon is sponsoring whatever this event is (if it even turns out to be true, as the lampoon is notorious for deception.) It's an organization based off of the off-color humor of society.

You people try to find any reason to dig whatever the topic is. Learn to open your eyes and shut your mouth.

Posted by Pam January 9, 08 03:36 PM
  1. I don' see what the beef is with Paris, she was born rich, she's good looking, good for her. Why does everyone need to jump on the people that won "life's lottery"?
Be happy for them. I do feel a bit sorry for her...imagine if people were taking your photograph every second of the day...like when you pick your nose, adjust yourself, whatever...leave her be.

  1. I like how the idiots that support this mess of a pop icon play the "give her the benefit of the doubt" card because she's done nothing to warrant respect based on anything else. What a waste of life. I also like how the supporters are apt to use intelligent dialect such as "cuz", "fuhn", and "you gots to be real". God, my generation is pitiful.

In fact, I would be willing to bet that she can drive all the way there without running off of a single bridge.

  1. Hello! This is the Lampoon that we're talking about! The Lampoon is the humor magazine of Harvard -- and many of you snapped at the Paris-Harvard connection like lake trout after a juicy fly, mis-guided by your own political biases. I would wager a week's salary that, whatever the Lampoon has in mind for our favorite airhead/parasite, it's not an academic achievement award. In fact, I'll bet that it's something quite the opposite.

YOUR only concern is the fact that you may get a peek and some creep of a paparazzi will get a shot. Other than that She is quite a beautiful young women and likely has more money both earned and inheirited than any of us will ever have. So ease up and get a life.

  1. To Qunaquot and others towing this line; yes, i'll venture that all posters to this blog know it is a joke from the Harvard Lampoon. Get off your high horse and enjoy the joke of missing the joke, or is that two steps too funny for you. so join the conversation and don't talk down to people, it's cheap and pisses off people. (Again, we know it's Harvard Lampoon, popular media covers it year after year).

  1. In the book that I'm currently working on I hope to shed light on how increased self-objectification leads to a lack of internal awareness. For example, the more Paris Hilton fashions herself into a Barbie the less aware she is of her aesthetic capital. Unfortunately there appear to be idiosyncratic exceptions. Paris does Harvard. (No, really, who is she doing?)
