Posted by Geoff Edgers March 19, 2008 12:51 PM

From the New Rep:

Phillip C. Patrone, most recently from Quincy, MA. died on March 15, 2008 after a six-month battle with lung cancer. Phillip, originally from Brockton, MA lived most of his youth in Largo, FL where he was introduced to theatre at age eight. When he landed a minor role in a local production of Mame, he was hooked. Later, he attended the Florida School of the Arts and upon graduating moved to New York for a brief time. In the early 1980’s, he returned to his Boston roots where he would spend the rest of his life.

Phillip was best known for his work at local theatres such as the Publick Theatre, where he was cast in his first Boston role, the Lyric Stage Company of Boston, New Repertory Theatre, Merrimack Repertory Theatre, and the Charles Playhouse. Some of his favorite shows included: Inspecting Carol and Side Man, for which his combined performances earned him the 2001 Elliot Norton Award for Best Actor.

  1. Didn't he do a stint at WCRB, playing the "Skaters' Waltz" nearly every day?

  1. This is very sad to hear. I was just telling someone this morning how great that production of "Pillowman" was, and Phillip was sort of the unsung hero in a show full of terrific performances.

  1. God bless. Those who saw him acting will know the loss that this is for the Theatre. He was a dynamic force that will be missed.

  1. I worked with Phil on "Pillowman" at New Rep and was deeply shocked to learn of his death-- what a glorious, generous actor!
My deepest sympathies for his wife and daughter.

  1. I worked with Phil on many a production both at the Public theater and also at the Lyric Stage theater covering a 5 year period. I am truly saddened at hearing of his passing. He was a great fellow actor, mentor, director and a lovely friend. God rest his soul.
