Drama Finals, Media Blackout
This is not a bad point made by Tai Irwin. Of course, his argument - that the Globe didn't do a good job, or any job, covering the Massachusetts Drama Guild Finals last week - is sort of deflated by the fact that the Herald didn't do squat either. But at least Irwin lodged a complaint.
My excuse? I actually had no idea this event was occurring. I have to say, I get a lot of e-mail pitches in my box each day. That goes with the seemingly endless list of stories I'm trying to work my way through, a list that never seems to shrink. So whether I should or should not have been aware of the Drama Festival Awards, I learned about them through the blog complaint.
What to do? I sent a note to the folks involved with the event asking if they pushed anybody at the Globe for publicity. We'll see if they did, and what they heard back. I also asked them to remember my e-mail for next year when hopefully we'll connect and at least provide an outlet - the blog, an arts brief, a Names item - to get the kids who performed admirably some attention.

Actually, his argument is quite valid considering that it's called the "Boston Globe Drama Festival Awards." You'd think someone employed by the paper that purports to be a sponsor of the event would pick up on that.
Actually, the correct name of the event is "The Massachusetts High School Drama Festival ." According to their website, they receive funding from the Boston Globe Foundation.
