Saturday Night

"You're not hugging yourself, Larry." I guess I deserve this for leaving Larry King Live on as I work on something. Janet Jackson is actually trying to show the Kingmaker a few dance moves. She's dressed in black. He's sporting jeans, and suspenders. He is also about 4,703 years old.

Ben Heppner and Deborah Voigt finally made it on stage together for “Tristan und Isolde.”

Did I mention one reason I am now intensely jealous of Richard Lacayo. This lunch.

Here's a good quote from imitation Beach Boy Bruce Johnston: "Mike Love gets the baddest rap, next to Hitler, I’ve ever seen. Hitler deserves it. Mike doesn’t." Read more, if you like.

I've never heard the CBC Radio Orchestra, but still, this feels like a sad moment.

  1. When I saw tickets for sale on the Opera List for T&I Saturday, March 22nd (also the date of the HDTV broadcast to area movie theaters), I took a chance and went to the Met to see and hear it live. As Steve Smith wrote in the New York Times, Robert Dean Smith (probably no relation) sang solidly and with beautiful tone, but he was no match for Deborah Voigt when it came to the Wagnerian heft required to sing this role into a house as immense as The Met. Voigt in fact may have restrained herself to be a better match with Smith. When channel 11 in NH broadcasts it in prime time on a weekday night (Boston's channel 2 has relegated The Met telecasts to the inconvenient time of Sunday afternoons) , I'll try to get an impression of what the telecast was like for those viewers ans listeners.
