From CBS:

Country music superstars Rascal Flatts will join conductor Keith Lockhart and The Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra on the BOSTON POPS FIREWORKS SPECTACULAR, an entertainment special to be broadcast live from the Charles River Esplanade in Boston, Friday, July 4 (10:00-11:00 PM, live ET/delayed PT) on the CBS Television Network. Craig Ferguson (CBS's "The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson") will host the special for the second consecutive year.

  1. Why? Surprises happen, but what can Rascal Flatts and the the Boston Pops possibly bring to each other? The 4th of July concert has become an event that should be an embarrassment to the BSO organization. I don't care how much money or publicity they gain from it. Believe it or not I'm not a fuddy-duddy who gets shocked at anything happening outside of my personal artistic comfort zone, but I do believe that anything connected to the BSO should have, at the very least, some pretense of artistic integrity. The Pops have become cheesy and 2nd rate. I don't know if I should blame the BSO for helping to create a culture that supports this sort of dreck or simply for caving into it. Perhaps both.

  1. I completely disagree with that. The pops are amazing. I have never missed a Pop's 4th of July concert in my life and im 21 years old, and every year they amaze me. Rascal Flatts are amazing in concert and are going to sound great in concert w. the Pops. The pops are neither cheesy or 2nd rate, perhaps you just don't know good music when you hear it.
