Marsalis symphony postponed, Tanglewood

Posted by Geoff Edgers August 18, 2008 09:19 PM

Word out of Atlanta is that Wynton Marsalis's new symphony has been postponed. The work, which was going to be played in July by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and repeated in November, has been pushed into the 2009-10 season. The reason: Marsalis's delay in composing it.

What repercussions does that delay have up here?

The piece is a co-commission with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, so it was going to be played at Tanglewood next summer. The BSO says it will now likely be pushed into the summer of 2010.
