Best reporter ever, retiring

Pat Stith taught me a lot when I was working in North Carolina. He understood the psychology of an interview better than anybody I've met. He believed there was no substitute for hard work. And he never pretended to be smarter than his subjects. In fact, I think he sold himself very, very short when he almost seemed to believe he wasn't as smart.

One Stithism I always think of: That might be a fact but it sure ain't the truth.
