Dan Hirsch, music man, leaving MFA

"Well, music fans, here's a crummy way to start your weekend. Dan Hirsch, the concert program manager at the Museum of Fine Arts since late 2004, just announced he's leaving his post. But Boston is not losing him entirely. He's headed to CRASHarts, a division of World Music, where he'll fill a new job as director of music programs. Hirsch writes in an e-mail:
"This move will allow me to book shows at a variety of venues across the city, including the Institute of Contemporary Art, the Somerville Theatre, Berklee Performance Center, Sanders Theatre at Harvard, and several others."
In other words, you can still count on hearing interesting indie rock and world music around town, along with who knows what else. Hirsch starts his new role Sept. 29, booking for next year.
Thanks, Dan, for some of the most memorable shows we've seen in recent years: Beach House, Vashti Bunyan, Bon Iver, Juana Molina with Keren Ann, Bert Jansch, Joanna Newsom in the courtyard, Jorge Drexler, Ramblin' Jack Elliott, and we could go on. Thankfully, so will Dan.
