Mass MoCA, LeWitt tax
Starting Nov. 17 - when Mass MoCA's incredible Sol LeWitt building opens - the museum will be increasing its admissions fee from $12.50 for adults to $15. I asked why.
Spokesman Katherine Myers:
"We're increasing our offerings by 30% AND presenting art that you absolutely cannot see anywhere else in the world. We haven't raised our rates in several years yet everything from health insurance to heat, sheet-rock to Sharpies has risen -- some by more than 30%. I'm assuming that in the last 5 years the Globe has raised its ad rates and the price of buying the paper. It was time for an increase and MASS MoCA is worth it!"

I've seen a lot of memorable installations and shows at Mass MOCA. Worth a visit (combined with the natural offerings of western MA). Even its cafeteria and food are good.) But I do worry that a $15 admission fee might dissuade many potential visitors, especially in these tighter times. And any reduced fees for students, elders, artists, or others?
College students are $10. Kids are $5.
If you live in Massachusetts and have a library card -- and if you don't have a library card, you should get one, its FREE -- you can check out a day pass to visit MASS MoCA (and many other museums) from the North Adams library. Almost all the other libraries in the Berkshires have a pass to MASS MoCA too as do some in more eastern Mass locales. The library is open most hours the galleries are open with the exception of Saturday afternoon and all day Sunday. Williamstown library (5 minutes away) and Pittsfield library (30 minutes south) are open til 4 and 5 respectively on Saturdays.
The Parking Lot is FREE. If you park at the ICA it's $11, the MFA is more...
Its worth it. The LeWitt install is amazing. Is membership more? I joined and it is totally worth it. My favorite art museum in the world.
