Shepard Fairey's Joaquin Phoenix beard image spotted in Central Square
A couple of weeks ago the culture-vultures at New York Mag so boldly informed us that Shepard Fairey's image of Joaquin Phoenix's bearded visage had been spotted by "sharp-eyed citizens" in New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Boston. Only one problem: We looked and looked, but couldn't find the poster, which was created to push the Casey Affleck-directed "I'm Still Here" documentary, detailing the actor's potentially hazardous rap career. (The film comes out in September.)
Today, though, we had a Joaquin sighting on a wall in Central Square. Fairey apparently had nothing to do with the installation, according to our source/photographer, who asked that we not reveal his or her identity. That's a wise idea, as we hear the police aren't big fans of wheat-pasted art.
