QUILT BY ARLONZIA PETTWAY, 1965
"Once, I went to Selma and a lady in a factory gave me a bag of flaps that go over men's pants pockets. I took them flaps and ripped them open, just like that. It took me a whole day and a half to rip those flaps open. I went to sewing them together in nine, 10 rows, like corn rows, and I made a quilt. I needed to make some quilts because I was in a big family. I had 10 children, and I need to make the children warm."
