Celebrate America's homegrown music genres the first night of Boston Summer Arts Weekend. Friday night's lineup features blues, bluegrass, and jazz from up-and-coming acts like the Boston-based bluegrass group Della Rae as well as established acts like New Orleans' famous Preservation Hall Jazz Band.

Italy isn't a country you'd associate with the blues, but Berklee College of Music student and Italy native Noe Socha is changing that. The guitarist and harmonica player kicks off Summer Arts Weekend with his take on the blues.

7:20 P.M. Della Mae

Like The Avett Brothers and The Punch Brothers, the Boston-based quintet Della Mae specializes in putting a contemporary spin on Americana and bluegrass music. The group is powered by five multitalented women.

8:20 P.M. Dr. John and the Nite Trippers

Grammy Award-winner Dr. John embodies the best of New Orleans' jazz and blues heritage. His sound blends the landscape of New Orleans sounds, mixing voodoo mysticism, funk, R&B, psych rock, and Creole roots.

9:20 P.M. Preservation Hall Jazz Band

New Orleans institution Preservation Hall Jazz Band brings its special breed of Bayou blues back to Boston for its second Summer Arts Weekend. New fans should be prepared to dance when the band queues up "When the Saints Go Marching In."

Mark your calendars. From July 26-27, WGBH, The Boston Globe, and Citizens Bank are bringing Summer Arts Weekend back to Boston.

This free weekend event will again feature a dynamic variety of musical artists from across the classical, jazz, blues, folk, and Americana worlds as well as a number of new arts, food and cultural programs. Check back often for more details.
