“Almost Human,” premiering Sunday night at 8 on Fox, before settling into its regular time slot Monday at 8, tells the tale of two cops, human detective John Kennex (Karl Urban, “Star Trek”) and his android partner Dorian (Michael Ealy).
Although the special effects-laden series is set in the year 2048, creator J. H. Wyman hopes that the show will resonate with viewers in the present tense. “The better sci fi is about humanity, and points out why we’re so flawed, but also so exceptional.”
Alongside Wyman, Urban, and fellow members of the “Almost Human” cast and creative team Ealy (“Sleeper Cell,” “The Good Wife”) spoke with reporters at the Television Critics Association summer press tour about playing a character who is wholly “synthetic” but programmed to feel human emotions.
