ABC Family airs “The Year Without a Santa Claus,” the finest Rankin/Bass “animagic” production ever made. Those of a certain age lap up this 1974 spectacular like it’s peppermint schnapps. It has everything: A cross-dressing Mrs. Claus, a pair of climate controlling mama’s boys showboating through song and dance, and a rogue reindeer getting zapped by heat rays. Mickey Rooney voices this very cranky and slightly lazy version of Kris Kringle.
