Jimmy Fallon, Billy Joel use iPad app for ‘The Lion Sleeps Tonight’ harmonies on ‘Tonight Show’

Who needs four men to sing a four-part harmony? Not Jimmy Fallon and Billy Joel.

While visiting “The Tonight Show” on Thursday, Joel agreed to do a duet with Fallon, using a looping iPad app to record all four harmonies from The Tokens’ classic, “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” — but only after a gracious pitch from Fallon.

“You’re one of my all-time favorites and just to even talk to you, I get a little nervous. But to sing with you is the craziest thing,” Fallon told Joel. “And so I came up with an idea where maybe I could sing with you. See if you want to do this or not.”

House band The Roots accompanied the duo for the song’s trio of verses after Joel and Fallon recorded the “wimoweh” harmonies.

If you can’t get enough of Joel, the “Only the Good Die Young” crooner will be at Fenway Park in June 26. Tickets for the summer show sold out in minutes through Live Nation, but there are 1,600+ tickets available on StubHub right now.
