Predicted, but not guaranteed

Canceled shows could play a role in the comedy nominees

DRAMA SERIES

``Lost," ABC

``Grey's Anatomy," ABC

``24," Fox

``The Sopranos," HBO

``The West Wing," NBC

If ``The West Wing" doesn't make it, don't be surprised if ``Rescue Me" finally gets overdue notice, or if ``House" squeaks by on the strength of Hugh Laurie . And ``Six Feet Under" may well find a spot based on its moving final season. Possible sneak attacks: ``Rome" or ``Battlestar Galactica."

LEAD ACTOR, DRAMA

Kiefer Sutherland, ``24"

James Gandolfini, ``The Sopranos"

Hugh Laurie, ``House"

James Spader, ``Boston Legal"

Patrick Dempsey, ``Grey's Anatomy"

Too bad Spader will get a nod simply for having won last year. If not, Michael C. Hall of ``Six Feet Under" could get deserved recognition. Or Denis Leary of ``Rescue Me" might finally get his due, although his performance may be too dark for voters.

LEAD ACTRESS, DRAMA

Kyra Sedgwick, ``The Closer" (inset)

Edie Falco, ``The Sopranos"

Frances Conroy, ``Six Feet Under"

Mariska Hargitay, ``Law & Order: Special Victims Unit"

Patricia Arquette, ``Medium"

Will the voters be able to resist Hargitay, one of their favorites? If so , Polly Walker of ``Rome" or Geena Davis of ``Commander in Chief" could find themselves among the chosen few.

SUPPORTING ACTOR, DRAMA

John Spencer, ``The West Wing"

Alan Alda, ``The West Wing"

Forest Whitaker, ``The Shield"

Naveen Andrews, ``Lost"

William Shatner, ``Boston Legal"

The late Spencer may be the only sure bet. Other contenders: Donald Sutherland of ``Commander in Chief," Gregory Itzin of ``24," T.R. Knight of ``Grey's Anatomy," Bradley Whitford of ``The West Wing," and the men of ``The Sopranos" and ``Lost."

SUPPORTING ACTRESS,DRAMA

Sandra Oh, ``Grey's Anatomy"

Jean Smart, ``24" (inset)

Blythe Danner, ``Huff"

Candice Bergen, ``Boston Legal"

Chandra Wilson, ``Grey'sAnatomy"

If the voters give up their ``Boston Legal" fixation, CCH Pounder of ``The Shield," Lauren Ambrose of ``Six Feet Under," or Katherine Heigl of ``Grey's Anatomy" could make the grade.

COMEDY SERIES

``Will & Grace," NBC

``Scrubs," NBC

``Arrested Development," Fox

``My Name Is Earl," NBC

``Desperate Housewives," ABC

The now-departed ``Will & Grace" will probably take upa slot, despite another mediocre season. If ``Arrested Development" doesn't gather post-cancellation steam, however, ``Curb Your Enthusiasm," ``Entourage," ``Everybody Hates Chris," or ``The Office" could make it into the running.

BEST ACTOR, COMEDY

Steve Carell, ``The Office"

Zach Braff, ``Scrubs"

Jason Bateman, ``ArrestedDevelopment"

Tony Shalhoub, ``Monk"

Eric McCormack, ``Will & Grace" (inset)

Jason Lee is the wild card, as the lead in ``My NameIs Earl." He or Larry Davidof ``Curb Your Enthusiasm" could show up on the listif McCormack doesn't get a sentimental nod.

BEST ACTRESS, COMEDY

Debra Messing, ``Will & Grace"

Felicity Huffman, ``DesperateHousewives"

Julia Louis-Dreyfus, ``The NewAdventures of Old Christine"

Lauren Graham, ``Gilmore Girls"

Jane Kaczmarek, ``Malcolm in the Middle"

Lisa Kudrow of ``The Comeback" and Mary-Louise Parker of ``Weeds" could replace Graham or Kaczmarek, who has already been rewarded with six nominations (and no wins). Let's hope the ``Desperate Housewives" don't clog up this category.

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR,COMEDY

Sean Hayes, ``Will & Grace"

Jeremy Piven, ``Entourage"

Ethan Suplee, ``My Name Is Earl"

Neil Patrick Harris, ``How I Met Your Mother"

Jon Cryer, ``Two and a Half Men"

Voters may not want to fill slots with ``Arrested Development" nods, since the series has been cancel ed. Otherwise, Will Arnett and Jeffrey Tambor could appear as finalists. Also, Terry Crews of ``Everybody Hates Chris" or Rainn Wilson from ``The Office" might easily supplant Suplee.

BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS,COMEDY

Megan Mullally , ``Will & Grace"

Jaime Pressly, ``My Name Is Earl" (inset)

Tichina Arnold, ``Everybody Hates Chris"

Holland Taylor, ``Two and a Half Men"

Elizabeth Perkins, ``Weeds"

Another hard category to predict. If the voters get behind ``The Office," Jenna Fischer will get a nomination. And don't count out Conchata Ferrell of ``Two and a Half Men" and Jessica Walter of ``Arrested Development."
