ON DEMAND
Evening

This is the sort of respectable film certain moviegoers say they want more of. Well, in this piece of fine china about a dying woman (Vanessa Redgrave) poring over her life, they've got it. Claire Danes plays the younger Redgrave. Full of bromides, the movie is notable chiefly for its actorly constellation, which also includes Toni Collette, Natasha Richardson, Eileen Atkins, Mamie Gummer, Meryl Streep, Hugh Dancy, and Glenn Close. Directed by Lajos Koltai and adapted by Michael Cunningham from Susan Minot's novel. (PG-13; runs through Feb. 29) - Wesley Morris
