SIR YES SIR!
American Idol
8 p.m., Channel 25
Carly Smithson certainly isn't the worst singer still in the competition. But, well, she kind of scares me. She’s so intense! So stern! She has the demeanor of a cult leader, or a battle commander at the front. I keep wanting to tell her to relax, to mellow out, to just enjoy. Will this be her week to go home?

Marathon Challenge
8 p.m., Channel 2
What 26.2 miles does to the body. We already know what it does to the traffic.

Ant Wars
8 p.m., Animal Planet
Clara versus Bee?

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit
10 p.m., Channel 7
Olivia goes undercover as a junkie in jail. TV realism as its most unforgettable.

WILD GENE
Role Model: Gene Wilder
8 p.m., TCM
TCM is headlining its night of Gene Wilder movies, including "The Producers" at 9:15, with this recent conversation between Wilder and Alec Baldwin. Now 74, Wilder is mostly retired from acting. But he is the author of - not kidding - "My French Whore." His second novel, "The Woman Who Wouldn't," came out last month.

Hell's Kitchen
9 p.m., Channel 25
Clucking. Plucking. Cooking.

The Universe
9 p.m., History Channel
Lyman-alpha blobs. Don't ask me, but I bet they're cool.

ON DEMAND
CB4
1/2 Comcast, Free Movies
This is "Spinal Rap": Like its mockumentary progenitor, it's a cotton-candy comic take on one of pop music's hot genres, goofing on inside knowledge but flitting quickly enough from joke to sight gag to joke so that the mainstream can ride along. Star Chris Rock co-wrote the script and stars as one of the rappers who makes it big by taking on a cartoonish "gangsta" persona. (R; runs through April 24)
