THE END
Generation Kill
Tomorrow at 9 p.m., HBO
"Generation Kill" has taken on an unexpected tone of nostalgia as it has built up to tonight's finale. Set during the first 40 days of the war in Iraq, David Simon's miniseries (above) features a group of Marines who still think the conflict will be a quick affair. The men of the First Recon Battalion have a strange, unwitting sense of innocence about them as they arrive in Baghdad.

ON DEMAND
Dances with Wolves 1/2 Comcast, Encore
The first great Western in decades, extraordinary in its heartfelt determination to set the record straight about Indians and our dealing with them, in this case a Sioux tribe, befriended by an unusually open US Cavalry officer played by Kevin Costner (below), who also makes a remarkable directing debut. (PG-13; runs through Aug. 28)
