SEATTLE—Amazon.com Inc. on Wednesday launched a new on-demand TV service that lets customers watch shows and find cast interviews for about 500 TV shows.

It will feature favorite shows such as "Battlestar Galactica," "Family Guy" and "Supernatural."

"The way people watch TV has changed dramatically in recent years," said Amazon's vice president of TV, movies and music, Peter Faricy, in a statement.

Amazon will feature 500 stores organized by TV show, with video clips and an on-demand video service so customers can instantly watch shows and movies without the interruption of ads. Customers can also browse for cast interviews and other features.

To attract new customers, Amazon said that its video-on-demand business will offer free episodes of some shows even before they air and older ones for people who missed them the first time.

Shares of the company fell $2.10, or 2.7 percent, to $76.79 in morning trading.
