Writer-director John Singleton makes a sprawling, combustible campus drama. Omar Epps is a black freshman whose scholarship is linked to his track prowess; Kristy Swanson is the white freshman who must deal with date rape; Michael Rapaport is the alienated freshman from Idaho who falls in with skinheads. Singleton shows his gift with actors, getting more-than-mouthpiece performances from all three. (R; runs through Oct. 30)
