CRANK

(Showtime on Comcast) A hit man (Jason Statham, above) is dosed with a lethal drug and has to keep his heart racing to stay alive. That's right, it's "Speed" in a human being. The movie's a preposterously amusing junkyard dog of an action flick for the first hour; unfortunately, the script runs out of gas before the hero does. With Amy Smart. (R; runs through Nov. 25) TY BURR

TYLER PERRY'S DADDY'S LITTLE GIRLS

(Showtime on Comcast) Gabrielle Union plays a haughty corporate attorney who falls for a kind and extremely handsome Atlanta mechanic, played by Idris Elba. Naturally, there is trouble ahead, the exasperating kind you can predict. Union and Elba have chemistry, and they have class. What they don't have in Perry is a filmmaker who knows yet how to use either to make real movie magic. (PG-13; runs through Nov. 25) WESLEY MORRIS

THE WORLD'S FASTEST INDIAN

(Showtime on Comcast) In this touching, uneven Roger Donaldson film, Anthony Hopkins plays legendary motorcyclist Burt Munro, a New Zealander who shot to fame in the 1960s as one of the oldest people ever to set a land speed record. Though the movie is cliched from the start, exhilarating full-throttle footage and the power of Munro's real achievement outgun even Hopkins's large performance. (PG-13; runs through Nov. 25)
