DOCTOR ZHIVAGO
(Comcast Pay-Per-View) David Lean's adaptation of Boris Pasternak's novel surrenders most of the book's intellect to the passion of Omar Sharif, Julie Christie (above, with Sharif), and Geraldine Chaplin. But there are very few films that have the epic sweep and grandiose vision that Lean brings to this love story during the Russian revolution. (PG-13; runs through Jan. 7)

CLUELESS
(Comcast Pay-Per-View) Alicia Silverstone comes through her big-movie debut with flying colors. On the whole, though, writer-director Amy Heckerling's comic take on mid-'90s youth trends (with a plot structure borrowed from Jane Austen's "Emma") is visually hot but way too mild in content. Silverstone plays a sunny, secure mall princess who does a makeover on the grunged-out new girl, throws herself at a Tony Curtis wannabe, then finds love in an unexpected place. (PG-13; runs through Jan. 7)

BETSY SHERMAN

DODGEBALL: A TRUE UNDERDOG STORY
(Comcast Pay-Per-View) Led by vintage Vince Vaughn, a ragtag crew of out-of-shape misfits enters a dodgeball championship to save their gym. They'll meet the team formed by the creep (Ben Stiller) who wants to buy it. It's sort of a draggy bore until the game is introduced. But after 20 minutes, the "underdog" of the movie's dumb title kicks in, and the performances start clicking. (PG-13; runs through Jan. 7) WESLEY MORRIS
