Critic's corner

American Idol 8 p.m., Channel 25

For a moment last week, when Adam Lambert (above) sang "Play That Funky Music," he sounded like Sinead O'Connor. Yeah, strange. The guy has the kind of elastic voice that stretches from Steven Tyler to Janis Joplin and back around to Judy Garland. Can't get much further away from David Cook and David Archuleta, can you?

Cupid 10 p.m., Channel 5

He was a revelation in "The Station Agent," he shined in "Third Watch," he was perfectly cast in "Will & Grace." Bobby Cannavale (above) is hard not to love. Indeed, maybe if he were a little harder to love in "Cupid," I'd like him a little more. There's something too cutesy about him on this romantic comedy, which is a remake of a short-lived 1990s show that starred Jeremy Piven.
