The Tonight Show With Jay Leno 11:35 p.m., Channel 7
Jay Leno says goodbye to the "The Tonight Show" with a guest visit from his successor, Conan O'Brien. In other words, rather than creating a schmaltzy farewell, NBC is turning Jay's last hour into a promotional opportunity for O'Brien (above left, with Leno last year). Don't worry Leno fans, he will be back in the fall, every night at 10, for a TV experiment that will succeed. If it doesn't fail spectacularly. James Taylor performs tonight. (For more on Leno, see next page.)
