Critic's corner

This show has taken a lot of critical grief over the years, as the quintessential mediocre domestic sitcom. I've beaten up plenty on the weak writing, the stereotypical characters, and the laugh track. So, on the occasion of tonight's series finale, I've tried to come up with something nice to say. And I've failed. Alas.
Mental 9 p.m., Channel 25
The case at the center of tonight's episode, involving a hysterical pregnancy, is of interest. But the show that surrounds it just doesn't click, as it suffers from a profound case of "House" envy. Chris Vance tries too hard to be like Hugh Laurie, and Annabella Sciorra tries too hard to be like Lisa Edelstein's Cuddy.
