Monsters Inside Me 9 p.m., Animal Planet

No, it’s not a Sartrean drama about a man coping with his nihilistic impulses - although that might be fun. This is horror flick meets scientific documentary, as we follow cases of people whose lives were thrown off course by invisible parasites. Tonight’s episode focuses on mass attacks, including a flesh-eating parasite on the loose in Texas. Next week: bedbugs.

Ascent of Money: From Bullion to Bubbles 9 p.m., Channel 2

Back story, anyone? Now that the world economic system is falling apart, maybe it’s time to examine how the system began. This series - a four-part version of an earlier PBS piece from January - looks at the fundamentals of the economy, and the origins of currency. It’s hosted by Harvard historian Niall Ferguson.
