BE KIND REWIND
(MAX on Comcast) After a freak accident destroys the cassette collection of a vintage video store, two buddies (Mos Def and Jack Black) are forced to remake the entire inventory themselves. Their rousingly bad moviemaking brings out some of writer-and-director Michel Gondry’s most blissful. This is comedy. This is a radical thematic departure from Gondry’s “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind’’ and “The Science of Sleep.’’ Now his filmmaking is civic-minded: He wants to connect people rather than personify the erasure of the bonds between them. The wonderful cast includes Melonie Diaz, Mia Farrow, and Danny Glover. (PG-13; runs through July 16) WESLEY MORRIS

BECOMING JANE
(Encore on Comcast) Given the bull market in all things Jane Austen, it’s time for a movie about Jane Austen, starring Anne Hathaway as the young Hampshire lass honing her art and falling in love. Girls (and other people) who like the Austen movies but haven’t progressed to the novels will enjoy this lushly mounted audience pleaser, but the writer’s clear, observant voice gets lost in the translation. With James McAvoy. (PG; runs through July 16) TY BURR

BOUNCE
(Starz on Comcast) Death makes a transition from the grim reaper to the grim dating service as Ben Affleck guiltily looks up Gwyneth Paltrow. She’s the widow of the man to whom he gave his seat on a flight that crashed. It’s a switch, watching him play guilt, and she’s glowingly distraught, but the story’s framing circumstances undercut the love story. (PG-13; runs through July 16)
