Chasing Amy 8 p.m. IFC

Ben Affleck stars as Holden, who falls in love with Alyssa (Joey Lauren Adams, who is a lesbian. Holden’s best friend Banky (Jason Lee) is jealous. Of what, you ask? C’mon. You know you’ve been there. Written and directed by Kevin (“Clerks’’) Smith, “Chasing Amy’’ celebrates the mess of love, late ’90s-style, with wit, heart, and a shoestring budget. If the movie’s a bit of a mess, too, chalk it up to art imitating life.

Life After People 8 p.m. History Channel

As if we don’t have enough to worry about, the History Channel unleashes a speculative study of what the planet would be like if humans suddenly vanished. What would become of the buildings? How about other life forms on land, in the air, and in the water? Some of the places examined are areas abandoned after the 1986 Chernobyl disaster, the New York subway system, London after the failure of the Thames floodgates, and deserted towns in Maine.

The Partridge Family 8 p.m. Biography The beloved (by some of us) ’70s sitcom gets the biography treatment. Hell’s Kitchen 8 p.m. Channel 25 The 14 remaining contestants are awakened in the middle of the night to fix spaghetti - stat! - for hungry firefighters. Slowpokes must wax the fire engines. Clear and Present Danger 10 p.m. AMC Harrison Ford, the CIA, covert armies, drug cartels. . . ’nuff said. Bizarre Foods With Andrew Zimmern 11 p.m. Travel Channel This fellow found a niche. On tonight’s menu, from Spain: pig brains and bull testicles.
