The Globe’s Joanna Weiss and Matthew Gilbert chatted about TV with readers Thursday on Boston.com. Here are excerpts.

Q. I hate when the summer series end.

Joanna: Take heart. “House’’ will be back, and “Glee.’’ And “Mad Men’’ just came back. And “V’’ starts in November, which could actually be kinda cool. And maybe - just maybe - you won’t have to see any more of ‘Octomom’ for a while.

Matthew: And “Bored to Death’’ is cute, on HBO in September. Also, “Modern Family’’ has promise on ABC this fall. “Sons of Anarchy’’ is returning to FX next month. I think there’s always good TV around, if you look for it.

Joanna: Ooh, I don’t like “Bored to Death.’’ Sorry.

Matthew: I forgive you, Joanna. But you’ll still have to answer to the TV god.

Joanna: The TV god will back me up, I’m guessing. She’s tired of whiny Brooklynites, too.

Matthew: I love Jason Schwartzman, who stars.

Joanna: I loved Jason Schwartzman in “Rushmore.’’ Less so here.

Q. Have the networks come up with their schedules yet? Just curious what night “Better Off Ted’’ will air, a definite must-watch for me!

Matthew: Tuesdays in the winter for “Better Off Ted.’’ The fall schedule is on our blog, Viewer Discretion, at Boston.com.

Q. Is the chance of “Carnivale’’ returning something other than 0 percent? I hate story lines that leave you hanging.

Matthew: Less than 0.

Q. Can you think of any old TV shows that could actually work as a remake instead of becoming a soulless retread?

Joanna: “V’’! I mean, the jury’s still out, but this remake has the potential to be both faithful and updated. And then, don’t forget “Battlestar Galactica,’’ which was a brilliant reconception.

Q. Isn’t “Mad Men’’ a remake of “Bewitched’’?

Joanna: That’s what Betty has to do: just wrinkle her nose.

Matthew: Roger = Larry?

Joanna: Endora = Joan? Tabitha = Sally?

Q. They’ve already switched Don Drapers.

Matthew: Aunt Clara = Peggy? Uncle Arthur = Sal? Dr. Bombay = Robert Morse? Help, I’m stuck.

Q. I’m still obsessing on the remake question. Two words: Urban. “Lassie.’’ (I’m feeling very Ari Gold.)

Joanna: “CSI: K9.’’ “K9Numb3rs.’’

Matthew: “DogHouse.’’

Q. What’s the latest with “Friday Night Lights’’; back this fall?

Matthew: Nope, not till next summer on NBC. Not sure when DirecTV will air it. Maybe this fall.
