Parks and Recreation 8:30 p.m., Channel 7

I know that viewers and critics have been disappointed - justifiably - with this Amy Poehler series, which is from the makers of “The Office.’’ But in watching some of the repeats this summer, I’ve become hopeful. There’s lots of potential here, if the writers can figure out the small but critical element that’s missing. The series returns on Sept. 17.

Into the Pride 8 p.m., Animal Planet

Tonight, Dave Salmoni wraps up his mission to save a pride of lions in the African bush. “Into the Pride’’ has been fairly amazing in the way it has gotten so close to the lions, and in the poetic photography of the bush. But the series also triggers unhappy flashbacks to “Grizzly Man,’’ the documentary about the disturbingly bear-obsessed Timothy Treadwell, who got fatally close to his animal friends.
