INSTINCT
(Encore on Comcast) Anthony Hopkins slips into a sort of high-minded Hannibal Lecter mode as a glowering primatologist imprisoned in a high-security unit for the criminally insane after a bloody incident in the Rwandan jungle. Cuba Gooding Jr. is the psychiatrist assigned to draw him out. What happened isn’t exactly a mystery, but the movie’s intermittent fun to watch, despite its air of rehash and predictability. (R; runs through Nov. 5)

BOGUS
(Encore on Comcast) Norman Jewison’s fantasy about a 7-year-old boy who invents an imaginary playmate and guardian angel to protect him after his mom is killed in an auto crash is sweet and heartfelt, but too slight and predictable. Gerard Depardieu’s cartoony made-up pal and Whoopi Goldberg’s warmth as the initially reluctant mother surrogate aren’t enough to bring it to life. (PG; runs through Nov. 5)

LORD OF THE FLIES
(Encore on Comcast) Solid film remake of William Golding’s classroom classic about civilization melting away quickly when a bunch of plane crash-surviving schoolboys land on a desert island, go native, and then go savage. (R; runs through Nov. 5)
