THE WILD CHILD
(Comcast Movies and Events) Francois Truffaut’s 1970 film, based on the true story of a feral boy (Jean-Pierre Cargol) discovered in 1798 France. Truffaut himself plays the doctor who tries to educate the boy; the film is gentle, lucid, and immensely touching. In French, with English subtitles. (Unrated; runs through Dec. 31)

TY BURR

SHIPWRECKED
(Comcast Movies and Events) This Disney pirate adventure is the perfect antidote to the high-concept inanities of modern kids’ movies. A young Norwegian works as a “ship’s boy’’ on the high seas, where he comes up against snarling villain Gabriel Byrne and a hurricane. Good Saturday matinee fare. (PG; runs through Dec. 31)

THE SANTA CLAUSE
(Comcast Movies and Events) The question is whether this sleigh is half full or half empty. Interesting premise (St. Nick has actually been embodied by a string of men down through the centuries) meets marketable star (Tim Allen as Santa) and goes almost nowhere. The wisecracks are fresh, but the fat jokes and plot twists are formulaic. (PG; runs through Dec. 31)
