VAMPIRE IN BROOKLYN
(HBO on Comcast) Not exactly the comeback vehicle Eddie Murphy had hoped for. He’s the main reason, lacking the acting ability to fill the latter-day vampire role with the romantic sweep and sexual danger it requires. Angela Bassett, as the woman he has his eye on, fills the screen with warmth and the kind of effortlessly commanding performance Murphy is unable to muster. (R; runs through Nov. 16)
STIGMATA
(Comcast Free Movies) An “Exorcist’’ in reverse, as well-intentioned priest Gabriel Byrne tries to find out what’s ratcheting up the supernatural and dangerous forces taking over hairdresser Patricia Arquette’s life. Good performances, but over-aggressive direction prevents this one from unnerving us with the eeriness it could have mustered. (R; runs through Nov. 17)
